USA Junior
Olympic Sailing Festival 2012 - Midwest
The
Lake Saint Louis Sailing & Paddling Club is pleased to present the
2012 USA Junior Olympic Sailing Festival - Midwest, on July 20-22, 2012,
in Lake Saint Louis, Missouri.
The Junior
Olympic Sailing Program is a nationwide series of regattas for youth
ages 8 to 21. Each event in this family of regattas is hosted by a different
club or organization, but all events share a common goal: to promote the
enjoyment of sailing and development of skills to young sailors as well
as provide an Olympic pathway for talented junior sailors. Events mix
Olympic-stylecompetition with elements of learning and fun for all levels--from
beginning racers to those with Olympic aspirations. In 2012, 25 events
are planned in the continental United States 
and
Hawaii and nearly 4,000 sailors expected to participate. Junior Olympic
Sailing is coordinated by US SAILING and sponsored by West Marine, Gill,
and St. Louis Sail & Paddle.
Racing
We plan to race fleets of Sunfish (singles and doubles), Lasers, Laser
Radials and Optis. We will gladly add other fleets if we can get enough
boats, so please let us know if you would like to race something other
than the boats listed above. While we do expect to host some very good
young sailors, this is a fun competition that will include sailors of
all skill and experience levels. If you can sail, you can race with us!
We invite all junior sailors to come join us for a fun-filled weekend
of sailing and camaraderie. Racing will take place on Saturday and Sunday.

Friday Fun - Lessons and Pirate Party
We'll have Friday morning and afternoon sailing lessons
for the new or novice sailors, as well as our very popular annual Pirate
Party (as featured in St.
Louis Magazine!) for all sailors on Friday afternoon starting
at 4:00pm. We are very excited to share one of our favorite events with
our visiting sailors. You don't need to be a sailor to be a pirate at
our party, we'll have a variety of boats to take all our pirates (no matter
how young) out on the lake to search for pirate treasure!
Sailors can choose to participate in the Friday lessons, the Pirate Party, the racing, or any combination of these activities. Spectators and participants will have full access to the beautiful Lake Saint Louis Community Association Clubhouse and beach, which provides for fabulous stadium-like views of the sailing.
