..AHOY FRIENDS! Thanks to all
who attended our general membership meeting and those who responded by
mail. In this first news letter, I will report on the decisions made that
evening. Weekly Racing: After some discussion, it was decided that there will be no weekly racing program. Even though there will be no weekly racing, it was decided to have the comminee boat available to use for some of the other functions during the year. The comminee boat will be moored at Windjammer. There was a discussion on what should be done with the John Brown Jr Memorial Fleet Trophy, since the weekly racing is eliminated for this year. Pearson Buell suggested that we hold on to the fleet trophy and to make contact with other C.A. clubs to see if they would be in favor of purchasing a trophy case for the clubhouse. Paul Schattgen seconded Pearson's motion, the motion passed. Pearson and Paul will contact the C. A. clubs and the C.A. about placing a trophy case in the club house. Sailing Regattas: It was decided to have 6 Regattas this year. There will be three Sunfish Regattas on the small lake and three Cabin Boat regattas held on the big lake. The first regatta will be held in June and will be a Sunfish regatta. Details will follow once the regatta committee meets to lay out this year's plans. Social Gatherings: The social gatherings will center around the regattas. They will be planned around a family setting. Sailing Lessons: Sailing lessons will continue for both adults and youth. Plans and time tables will be decided by the sailing lesson committee. Boat ramp on the little lake near the Club House: The need for a boat ramp at the club was brought up by several members. Paul Schattgen was asked to bring this need up again at the next Lakes & Parks Committee meeting. If any of you have contact with any C.A. board member, would you please express the need to them about a boat ramp so our C.A. members could launch a small boat that their children could use on the lake while the adults are enjoying the clubs other amenities. "ON THE WATER" BOAT SHOW" This year's boat show will be held on June 7th and 8th. Leave your calendars open as your help will be needed to assist with this event. Ray Grossmann has agreed to be the Boat Show Manager again this year. Ray has further details later in this newsletter. Committee Boat: Ray Grossmann reported that the committee boat will need to be tuned up before we launch it. Mark Englehart moved, and Nancy Donley seconded that we hire someone to tune up the Comminee Boat prior to launching it. The motion passed. Greet and Meet Event: This is an annual event to welcome and invite friends, neighbors, and new community residents to share an informal late afternoon and evening with the Sailing Club. The purpose is to encourage sailing, talk up our programs to be offered this year, and generally make new friends and potential new members for the Sailing Club. The program will be similar to last year. It will be held Saturday, May 24 at Windjammer Point around 4 pm. Generally we will have ice breaker games, light food, and fellowship. Rides on some of our Cabin Boats will be available. Cabin boat owners plan on bringing your boat down to Windjammer so we will have ample room to take friends and members out on the lake for an evening of sailing. Mark your calendars and invite some friends & neighbors to come with you. Karen LeBeau has asked the following to serve on the social comminee for that day: Joan Grossmann, Sue Heilmann, Diane Walther and Beth Campbell. If this committee has any further information, they will submit a flier with this newsletter mailing. Board Vacancies: Nominations were taken from the floor for the vacancies on the club's board. Ray Grossmann was nominated for Vice Commodore, Mark Engelhardt was nominated for the 3 year term board member. Both people were voted in the affirmative... Welcome Aboard!
