From the Commodore’s Desk

It's that overwhelming blast of heat and humidity that I feel everytime I walk out the door tells me that summer must be here. For some of us, the sailing season started months ago. For some others, the heat means the sailing season is on hold until fall.

Regardless which category you fall into, the Sailing Club has something for you to do this summer. From racing, to teaching, to socializing...there will be no excuse for failing to join us for some fun in the sun.

Boat Show

For those that missed it (and how could you?), the On-the-water Boat Show was a huge success this year. Ray Grossmann and all the volunteers did a tremendous job making this third annual show an event that all of Lake St Louis can be proud of. Windjammer Pointe was absolutely full of boats and people the weekend of June 10-11.

The dealers reported that a number of boats were sold, and lots of prospective buyers took advantage of the only on-th-water boat show in the area to test drive some boats. We even raised a few dollars for the Leukemia Society by taking folks sailing on Saturday.

Sailing Academy needs your help!

Norm West continues his great work with the sailing lessons so far this year. We have already seen 25 people (kids and adults) take part in our lessons, with many more scheduled for future lessons. Norm has focused on the weeklong beginning juniors, and Pearson Buell has been teaching the intermediate/racing and adult lessons. Both of the teachers can use some support from other club members. There is really no "heavy lifting", but it is helpfull to have an extra set of hands and eyes to make sure everyone gets the most out of the lessons.

There are few things as rewarding as watching new sailors grinning from ear to ear the first time the wind fills the sail of their sunfish and the boat bigins to move. More than once we've heard them yell, "I'am sailing!" Besides the fun you can have teaching, the lessons are also our best hope to ensure the long-term success of the Lake St Louis Sailing Club. So please, if you have a little time to spare, contact Norm or Pearson and offer to help.
