Sunfish and Laser Racing

Sunfish sailboats are certainly one of the easiest boats to race, even for the novice sailor. That is one of the reasons why our younger sailors compete in these boats. Additionally, because the Sunfish belong to a "one-design" class, the boats are theoretically equal, so the sailors can compete on a more even playing field.

Note that Sunfish racing is not just for the kids. Many of our adult members race in the regattas as well. Sailors can compete in several different divisions, including Junior Singles, Junior Doubles, and Adult Singles.

We have scheduled several Sunfish regattas for 2008. All Sunfish regattas take place on the little lake (Lake Sainte Louise) unless otherwise noted. We gather no later than 1:00pm on the beach at the Lake Saint Louis Community Association clubhouse before each regatta begins. We have club- and CA-owned boats to use, but the supply is limited, so sailors are encouraged to bring their own Sunfish if they have one.

We have also introduced Sunday Afternoon Series racing on the little lake. These races will count towards monthly championships, as well as towards the overall fleet championships.

In 2007, we introduced Laser racing, as the club has purchased our first Laser sailboat.
